Norwegian newspaper print site Amedia Trykk is expecting a two-year ROI on its investment in closed-loop and colour register... guaranteed.
The latest upgrade deal follows DCOS' completion of a press extension of a Goss Universal at the Lilleström site six months ago, including retrofitting of the EAE control system.
Now the Swedish automation and control company is returning to upgrade both the Goss and an existing manroland Geoman.
The focus is on print quality, efficiency and waste savings, and will see both presses equipped with the DCOS CRC4 closed-loop colour and register control system, a total of 24 scanners. The inspection system will be integrated with the new DCOS control platform on the Goss Universal, while on the Geoman, the new technology will take over ink, register and water control.
DCOS managing director Mattias Andersson says the company has "plenty of good experience" working with Amedia on a number of projects. "They already have two installations of our multi-function CRC4 scanners installed on other presses within their group and I believe their experience with us and our system is a major factor in us winning this order," he says.
A condition for Amedia to invest was that the investment be paid off in less than 24 months. Based on data from their running inspection system installations, the parties have together created a reliable ROI calculation that will fit the condition.
Plant manager Morten Kringler says results on existing installations in combination with the experience of short start-up times contributing to "more or less instant savings" had been our key factors: "With our condensed ROI time, we also needed a system free from consumable costs or reoccurring calibration costs," he says.
The installation and start-up will be carried out in (northern) summer 2016.
