Two 4-1 presslines at the Times of India are to be extended to meet increased demand for the giant English-language daily.
manroland web systems will supply three new colour towers to expand and configure the Regioman presslines in Chennai and Pune.
Times of India is manroland's largest user in India, with a relationship which extends over two decades. Understood to be the largest English-language newspaper in the world, it prints 3.4 million newspapers daily - twice that of its closest competitor and on a par with the leading regional newspapers in India.
In Chennai, two new towers are to be installed, with webs guided through the existing printing towers to create two independent 32-page presses. Two reel splicers are also to be installed.
In Pune, a reconfiguration of the existing Regioman will see one new tower added, expanding capacity and colour there from 32-plus-16 pages to 32-plus-24 pages.
The new towers will be shipped from the Augsburg factory to India in December, with the reconfigured presses scheduled to be operational from mid-2017.
