A new-design Tensor H-50 folder is part of a capacity upgrade at Polaris Trykk's print site in Harstad, Norway.
The Norwegian group has been working to expand capacity following closure of a nearby print shop, and has added the fully shaftless H-50 to an existing ten tower one-folder Goss Universal pressline.
The folder has recently been subject to a major redesign, adding additional features and automation including independent drives on the lower folder section, RTF, nipping rollers, quarterfolder, transport tapes and delivery. Other new features include a simplified gearbox design, pneumatic-controlled nipping rollers, a touchscreen for folder settings, product configuration and information with electronically-controlled trolley and nip pressure from the control desk and touchscreen. A Tolerans compact stitcher is also integrated with the folder.
Polaris Trykk chief executive Steinar Bakken says the site has taken on a lot more production lately: "We needed a second output to meet this volume increase but also provide a reliable backup folder."
The Tensor H50 folder was well-known from two other group printing sites, and Bakken says the attractions of a stable and long term partner and the automation level offered on the upgraded H50, made the choice obvious.
The upgraded H50 design is a collaboration between Tensor´s engineering department and its sister company DCOS, providing the automation. The folder shipped with a fully independent drive and control system and was integrated via an interface to the existing EAE press control system.
The folder was produced and shipped in a record 13 weeks, and airfreighted to Europe to allow installation during the Easter holiday. It is now in daily production.
