An installation of QuadTech's inspection system on new gravure press in Cape Town is the first of its kind in the South African market.
Paarl Media's newly-acquired Cerutti R98X has been equipped with a number of tools for colour, quality and waste management.
Headquartered in Cape Town, parent Novus Holdings operates 12 specialised printing plants and two tissue plants across South Africa. Several of Paarl Media's heatset and commercial gravure presses already have QuadTech control equipment. "We have a longstanding relationship, so it was a natural step to select their latest technology for our new packaging operation," group executive for heatset operations Christoff Botha says. "Our aim is to improve waste management and deliver 100 per cent defect-free material to our customers at all times."
The new press has QuadTech's waste management system, downstream on a Pemco sheeter, and a waste gate will automatically eject pre-marked defective material. Other additions include the AutotronTM 2600 integrated inline register system, QuadTech's full-width inspection system, and web viewing.
QuadTech Color Measurement System with SpectralCam handles in-line colour measurement, with the Autotron facilitating tracking and optimisation of each key stage in the printing process, and Data Central managing workflow.
South African agents Kamboo Marketing were heavily involved in the installation, commission and training for the project. Sales manager Russell Muller says his company's technicians will be able to log into the system remotely to identify and resolve any issues, reducing possible downtime and costs of deploying field technicians.
