A visit to India for INMA executive director and chief executive Earl Baskerville included a “no pressure” townhall event and an AI-focussed study tour.

The INMA townhall at Jagran New Media in Noida – conducted in the middle of their newsroom and surrounded by more than 200 people – was broadcast to all of Jagran’s offices throughout the Hindi Belt.

“No pressure, right,” says Baskerville.

One of “the strongest digital stories for legacy media in all of India”, it was part of a week of activities that also included a study tour for members in New Delhi focused on future tech and AI.

The busy week in New Delhi and Hyderabad included visits to nine companies – Amar Ujala, HT Media, Eenadu, Sakshi, Times of India, Jagran New Media, Dainik Bhaskar, TV9, and Network 18.

A hybrid study tour included stops at Microsoft, Google and Amazon, with presentations from more than ten tech and AI start-ups.

Baskerville also presented a keynote for Indian Newspaper Society directors, and attended a meeting of INMA’s South Asia division board.

The programme included a welcome reception at The Delhi Gymkhana, with guests including study tour attendees, representatives from participating companies, INMA board members and other INMA members and non-members
