A highlight of this year’s conference in Singapore was the presentation of WAN-Ifra's Digital Media Asia 2022 awards.

Entries were grouped to provide an additional category for news media companies with annual revenue of less than US$10 million, with Astro AWANI, Tatler and SPH Media emerging as the biggest winners. Some 145 entries were submitted for the competition, which recognises leaders in the adoption of digital media and mobile strategies in response to how people consume news and information.

Malaysian broadcaster Astro AWANI, which entered the competition in the small/medium category won gold and silver in the ‘best special project in COVID-19’, and gold in the best branded/sponsored content campaign, as well as being runner-up for ‘best newsletter’. In the same small/medium publisher category, The Tatler also beat larger counterparts to clinch gold in the overall best newsletter category, as well as gold in both the podcast/digital audio project and best lifestyle or sports site.

Singapore’s SPH Media won overall gold and silver in the best lifestyle or sports site, and gold in the best podcast/digital audio project, and was runner-up in the special project in COVID-19.
