An AI project conceived at the WAN-Ifra AI Catalyst accelerator is helping Indonesian news site Tempo optimise monetisation, data utilisation and organisation.
The case study is one of several the subject of the upcoming Jakarta AI Forum (August 4) which aims to provide news media companies with the perfect opportunity to explore AI – from taking the first steps, to discovering innovative applications, or rethinking your existing AI strategy.
Designed as a ‘case study forum’, it features expert speakers who will share real-world examples across diverse use cases. Organiser WAN-Ifra promises practical insights and a wealth of ideas to implement AI effectively.
Known for its investigative journalism and and unstinting independent reporting, Tempo took lessons from the AI Catalyst accelerator to optimise monetisation strategies, data utilisation and organisation, as well as to enhance workflow efficiency and to increase productivity. Speakers are head of research and development Afdol Rizki Halim and senior product manager Gregoria Vincent Wijaya.
Other case studies on the agenda for the August 4 event come from Mediacorp (Singapore), Malaysiakini and pure-play digital content site AsiaOne.
Mediacorp is a leading AI adopter in the region and has launched multiple initiatives. At the Jakarta forum, AI strategy and solutions lead Chung Lyn-Yi – who is also the deputy chief editor for CNA Digital – will share a project which highlights innovative use of AI to grow reach and expand their audience.
From Malaysia’s Malaysiakini – one of Malaysia’s first digital news platforms with a reputation as an independent voice in a media landscape dominated by corporate and political interests – news editor Zikri Kamarulzaman will share another AI project from the AI accelerator which demonstrates the ability of generative AI to not only improve productivity in the newsroom but also create better and more engaging multi-lingual content.
From Singapore’s AsiaOne, Edmund Chua will talk about their integration of AI and data into their newsroom and revenue operations “from end to end”, resulting in better revenue outcomes.
The use of AI allows them to conduct in-depth analysis of users’ reading habits, enabling them to optimise newsroom strategy and content design (paid and unpaid). In-depth understanding of the audience further enables more precise ad targeting and better brand safety.
Other speakers include Ouest-France head of AI David Dieudonne, KG Media, Indonesia chief executive Andy Budiman, Reuters global general manager Jason Subler, SunStar Cebu (Philippines) editor-in-chief Mildred Galarpe, Pradhana Harsaputera Sidharta (chief operating officer at Indonesia’s Volare Advertising Network), and Barry Adams of Irish specialised SEO consultancy Polemic Digital.
Organiser WAN-Ifra is offering AI assisted mobile phone app translation in Thai, Bahasa Indonesia, Chinese, Vietnamese Japanese, Korean and other languages.
