News Corp Australia's Vivid magazine was among top winners at Australia's National Print Awards.

Vivid and Morrison Media's Frankie (pictured) both won gold in the Media Super-sponsored awards for IPMG units Offset Alpine and Hannanprint respectively.

Hannanprint's success came in the category for booklets, catalogues, brochrues and magazines (90gsm or below, excluding cover). Prepress, printing and finishing were by Hannanprint, with the News Life Media publication printed on Norske Skog's Northstar 80.

In the web-offset heatset or coldset category, Frankie won gold for Offset Alpine Printing and publisher Morrison Media. It was printed on Grange Board and Publication Offset.

The Chaser's Julian Morrow and Charles Firth were at the helm for the Media Super National Print Awards presentation dinner guaranteeing a night of laughter, celebration and networking. Some 250 industry professionals gathered at Melbourne's Plaza Ballroom at the Regent Theatre to see 100 medals presented - 29 gold, 31 silver and 40 bronze - across 32 categories and sub-categories.

Multiple winners included Adams Print (five gold, four silver and one bronze) and Press Print (four gold and three bronze). The Judges' Award for Excellence went to Adams Print for the case-bound book, 'Hermitage: The legacy of Catherine the Great' for the National Gallery of Australia.

"Every year, we think that the standard achieved can get no higher - and each year, we are surprised again by how printers here in Australia continue to push the boundaries of quality and innovation to achieve results which would most certainly rate amongst the best in the world," chair of judges Luke Wooldridge says.

Gold awards were not made in the new typography or illustration categories. The Printing Industry Legend award, presented by Media Super, went to Arthur Frost of Lamson Group, who began his career selling pens and paper on trams.
