Author and consultant Steven Overman has been named chief marketing officer of Kodak.
Overman (46) reports to chief executive Jeff Clarke and is a member of the company’s executive council. His brief is to lead a global, company‐wide renewal of the Kodak brand including the strategic development and coordination of its brand identity, global marketing programmes and activities, and communication of its vision, strategy and progress to all stakeholders.
Clarke says Kodak has a big brand and needs a creative thinker to unlock its power: “Throughout his career across a number of leading technology companies and marketing firms, Overman has been exceptionally successful in driving brand transformation and innovative marketing,” he says.
Overman – who describes the role as a “once‐in‐a‐generation” opportunity –is author of a forthcoming book, The Conscience Economy, How a Mass Movement for Good Is Great for Business, due for publication next month.
He is the founder of Match & Candle, a consultancy supporting startups and marketing service agencies with brand strategy development. A frequent public speaker, he has often lectured at the Judge Business School at Cambridge University.
Overman was previously vice president and global head of brand strategy and marketing creation for Nokia, and worked in several technology companies and marketing services agencies. He was among the first employees at Wired.
Early in his career, he was a multimedia artist whose photographic and motion picture work was exhibited at leading international galleries. He also was the director’s assistant for the 1993 Academy Award‐winning film Philadelphia. He is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design.
