With power and other utilities now ‘on’ at the Dulles, Virginia factory site, start-up, training and commissioning phases of a project to deliver new print facilities for the Washington Post are now underway.
Some 28 refurbished Goss Urbanite units have been configured in four three-high, and eight two-high groups, with two folders in the middle and one at the end, to print the 635mm-wide broadsheet collect.
Supplier ImPressions Worldwide says US Automation’s Dean Mouradian is the first of a series of auxiliary product and press specialists leading training over upcoming weeks. IW electrician Armando Garcia is “mostly complete” with the smoke testing and rotation tests, and with the press “almost fully functional”, technician Mike Stallings is leading mechanical testing, centreline testing, and ultimately print testing.
The press has been equipped with DCOS auto register, auto density and cut-off control, and has Perretta remote inking, motorised register, Inventor spray bars and Nela slot lock up inserts. Eight Enkel Autoweb pasters are installed at right angles to the pressline.
