Times of India’s INMA accolade seals great night

One of three companies to win multiple first-place awards, Times of India publisher Bennett, Coleman and Co was named ‘best in South Asia’ in INMA’s Global Media Awards, presented in New York at the Harvard Club.

The regional accolade – for its ‘The Times of a Better India’ project – was one of six handed out. Best in the Asia/Pacific was The Straits Times for its ‘World Cup: A Hat-Trick Special’ with Media24 Group winning in Africa, Editora Globo in Latin America, and the Wall Street Journal in North America.

Best in Europe winner Norway’s, and Schibsted’s Bergens Tidende – for ‘Journey Around the World’ – went on to take the overall ‘best in show title for its inventive storytelling format which enabled users to travel around the world visually. Judges said this campaign was a world-class execution of an epic journey featuring total immersion in an adventure.

A ‘special jury distinction’ was also awarded to Aftenposten, Bergens Tidende, Schibsted, and VG for their use of technology paired with outstanding multimedia narratives and excellent journalism.

Some 40 first-place winners were unveiled across 20 categories aimed at surfacing innovation and best practices in news brands, optimising the use of media features, subscriptions, advertising, data and insights, product, and newsroom innovation.

The 2023 competition attracted 775 entries from 239 news media brands in 40 countries, with participants including newspaper media, magazine media, digital media, television and radio.

“We were honoured to be able to celebrate these huge accomplishments in person for the first time in four years,” said INMA executive director and chief executive Earl Wilkinson. “The brilliance of this 2023 class really shined a light on the creativity and innovation taking root in the news media industry. We’re incredibly proud of all the entrants and especially of this year’s winners.”
