Brooks must wait as Murdochs shelve merger

Shelve the speculation about whether Rebekah Brooks gets the top jobs at a merged News Corp/Fox Corp… it isn’t happening.

Or at least, not yet.

News has told investors the timing is “not optimal” with co-chairmen Rupert Murdoch and son Lachlan telling directors they wanted to shelve the idea.

“As a result of this action, the special committee of the board of directors of News Corp has been dissolved,” it said, adding an expression of appreciation for the special committee’s efforts.

News Corp split in 2013, creating the two new businesses, and then sold its film assets to Disney in 2019.

Meanwhile, in Australia, former prime minister Kevin Rudd has resigned from the chairmanship of the lobby group he formed, Australians for a Murdoch Royal Commission, deeming it inconsistent with his new role as Australia’s ambassador to the US.
