Australian Community Media is doing its bit for tourism in areas which were badly affected by bushfires.

Central to the campaign is a series of retro travel posters of NSW South Coast locations by Canberra Times cartoonist David Pope, evoking the railway promotions of almost a century ago.

They will appear in ACM newspapers as part of a tourism campaign, and then be available for sale as prints and posters to raise money for the recovery.

The Canberra Times and 50 of ACM's regional newspapers across the state will promote the region in a 'South Coast is calling' campaign. Featured areas include Cobargo in the Bega Valley, Batemans Bay, Narooma, Conjola in the Shoalhaven, Mogo, Nelligen on the Clyde River, Murramarang National Park and Clyde Mountain.

ACM chief executive Allen Williams says employees and publications in fire-affected areas have done remarkable work through the summer emergency. "This creative initiative is ACM's next phase of support for the region," he says.

"These are beautiful pieces of work. ACM feels strongly that audiences will warm to his depictions of the NSW South Coast and respond to our message, which is to get down to the coast for a holiday and help these towns and small businesses get back on their feet."
