When talk so frequently is about press manufacturers shedding jobs, manroland has reason to be upbeat about the 120 young people who will start their careers with the company in 2009, among them more than two dozen apprentices. Pictured are the 66 youngsters who join the web press team in Augsburg this month, among them two engineering students and three enrolled in integrated mechatronics degree programmes. Parallel to their studies in mechatronics at the University of Applied Sciences Augsburg, they are receiving vocational training in this career field. Eighteen school leavers – including two BA students – have started apprenticeships in Plauen, while 36 young women and men have been welcomed in the sheetfed centre of Offenbach, where new apprenticeships available include foundry patternmaking. manroland says apprentices from other regional companies are also able to receive integrated training in their training centres and have the opportunity to complete their entire professional training or specific modules to suit the needs of their home company.
