Ten years of tracking newspaper history

The Australian Newspaper History Group is approaching its tenth anniversary in October with plans for a special newsletter recording the way in which newspapers have changed during the period… and where they may be after another decade. Victor Isaacs founded the group and issued the first newsletter in October 1999 after a ‘History of the Book in Australia’ conference on local newspapers and local identities at Chiltern in north-east Victoria. Current newsletter editor Rod Kirkpatrick is inviting subscribers to have a say in the tenth anniversary issue, contributing their views on the most significant changes “in, or affecting newspapers” and where they might be. He’s also open to stories about amusing finds from newspaper research. Email Rod Kirkpatrick at rodthejourno@uqconnect.net and make his life easier by meeting the deadline for contributions of August 31 (rather than the “absolute deadline” of September 15)!
