Presses at Axel Springer's print site in Spandau, Germany, are to be further upgraded with a new order for QI Press Controls' ink control automation.
Following installation of 26 of the company's IDS-3D cameras for colour register and density control with five mRC-3D cameras, a larger project on the manroland Colorman press line will see a further 22 IDS-3D cameras added on 11 towers. The order follows clarification of future capacity requirements for the site.
The system will have automatic lens cleaning, ink ductor control, fault detection, dampening control and front-to-back register. "The IDS-3D will mean better print quality, and that technical and quality documentation will be automated," print production engineer Michael Schandelmaier says.
