Systems developer Newscycle Solutions has bought mobile platform DoApp Inc, a company which prides itself on developing 'cool' apps.

The mobile application development and mobile ad network company has more than 500 customers and has developed more than 1500 mobile apps for newsmedia and broadcast clients. Its offering includes a DoApp mobile publishing and advertising platform for media companies, and the Adagogo self-serve mobile advertising solution, as well as news, sports and weather apps.

Newest is Readful, a mobile news content sharing and curation platform.

Newscycle chief executive Preston Mckenzie says the company will integrate the DoApp technology into a newly formed mobile product pillar: "The DoApp acquisition allows us to extend our efforts in helping media companies embrace mobile-first workflows and build new mobile revenue streams," he says. "By adding their mobile development expertise, technology platform and ad network to our portfolio, we further expand our ability to introduce new value-added mobile solutions to our combined client base."

Former DoApp chief executive Wade Beavers has been appointed Newscycle's president of mobile: "Mobile is an important focus for media companies competing in a digital world," he says. "Becoming part of the Newscycle family will allow us to create a more complete experience that will take publishers forward and connect them to their audiences across all devices."

Founded in 2008 and based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, DoApp has customers in local television, radio and newspaper publishing markets. Its development and business operations team will work with the new owner's team in Bloomington.

Financial terms of the transaction - which closed on June 10 - have not been disclosed.
