Old Compacta gets a new lease of life

Four Compacta 106 units acquired to expand capacity at Belgian printing company Grafix have been upgraded with QI's measurement and control systems.

The Dutch specialist will install its mRC-3D system at the Dessel plant, where the KBA heatset press had been been installed following acquisition from another company.

While it had already been automated, the system had not been working properly, resulting in QIPC being approached. A system including two mRC-3D cameras for cut-off control and two for colour register - equipped for automatic lens cleaning - will enable Grafix to improve the quality of their end-product, as well as deliver on savings in waste.

QI managing director Menno Jansen says his company's second-ever order in 1997 was for an old heatset press for a sister company of Grafix in Kempenland, "putting the modernisation of old presses in our DNA".
