Relocated press gains upgraded systems integration

A secondhand press with partial print controls has provided a special challenge for the Colombian publisher of national daily the Vanguardia Liberal and contractor QI Press Controls.

The 12-tower Goss Universal 50 already had a QI system for cut-off control, as well as electronics from partner EAE, but the new owners decided that the size of the press justified a more sophisticated system. The company will now update this to their mRC-3D system for register and cut-off in a customised solution.

Production manager Manuel Carascal says having a single supplier for automation and operating systems will be a huge bonus, making integration much easier: QI have also addressed stability issues with the system previously installed on the press, and will modify it as part of the customisation.
