EDG has won a contract to update drives and controls on two presses at BH Media's Florence Morning News.

New drives, masters and touchscreens will be installed on the two DGM 850 single-width presses, each of which has two 125hp DC drives and motors. Electronic Design Group will install digital DC drives, redundant masters and a touchscreen for each press.

This will provide thorough drive status, unit status and logs for any event that stops the press, so there are no "mystery stops". These diagnostics are more comprehensive with the breaking out of stops and web breaks for each unit/folder within the scope of the project.

Tachometers on each motor - often a source of pain as they have mechanical moving parts which can cause intermittent speed issues - are being replaced with maintenance-free encoders. A remote support PC will also have programming software, programmes and schematics.
