A new PII-RIND technical seminar this month addresses newsprint and news ink in newspaper production.

The seminar on April 28 is the latest in a series which last year covered web-offset best practice, printing plant maintenance, and CTP systems in newspaper production.

Five sessions targetted for production executives and managers, quality control executives and materials executives, cover:

Newsprint manufacturing - Raw materials - virgin, recycled pulps and additives, manufacturing process and technology;

Newsprint standardisation - International standards, printability and runnability parameters, testing methods, relation between laboratory testing and actual performance during production;

Ink manufacturing - Raw materials and manufacturing process;

Ink standardisation - International standards, printability and rheological properties, testing methods, vendor rating based on testing; and

Supply chain and logistics management - Case study from a large newspaper house.
