It prints gravure quality at flexo prices on a web a metre wide... but what could it do for newspapers.

Benny Landa may not care, but no doubt the stand of the "father of digital printing" will be a pilgrimage for all those interested in print technology at the end of May.

Described as the industry's first digital press for mainstream production of flexible packaging, the new W10 Nanographic Printing press is one of several new offerings at DRUPA in Düsseldorf. Landa - who launched digital with the introduction of the Indigo almost two decades ago - says the web press will print up to eight colours at 200 metres per minute on plastic films, paper, cartonboard and aluminum foil. That's paper, polywrap and a host of dynamic inserts to take the publishing industry who-knows-where.

Which is what DRUPA is all about.

Landa says he expects stand visitors to be "completely blown away" by performance of the press - a phenomena to which he is not unaccustomed.

Sheetfed equipment on the 3,000 m2 stand - twice the size of last time's - includes S10 versions for folding carton and perfected commercial printing, plus a "zero-waste" metallisation process.

Theatre presentations five times a day through the show are by reservations orcan be booked on the Landa stand... if there's space.
