Spain is building a reputation as a leader in digital newspaper production, with Océ announcing an installation if its inkjet web system at a contract printer.

Imcodávila Group at Vicolozano (Ávila) near Madrid is commissioning a Jetstream 2200 system, capable of printing up to 6000 typically 80-page colour newspapers a day.

A leading contract newspaper printer with equipment including three manroland Uniset web-offset presses, Imcodávila prints about 200 different titles for national and local distribution, including the Barcelona daily ‘La Vanguardia’ and local‘Diario de Ávila’. Among their customers are major Spanish daily, weekly and monthly titles.

The 100-year-old company has established a reputation as a technology leader and innovator. The new site is expected to become one of the largest digital production centres in the world, both for the quantity of titles and production capacity.

Among operators in Spain already making use of digital newspaper printing technology for short-run and limited editions is a freelance newspaper distributor which installed Agfa’s Dotrix Transcolor last year.
