After upgrading press controls and drives on their Goss Universal over the past six years, Harland Simon is returning to Canada's StarPhoenix, this time to replace obsolete unit quality controls.

Rockwell damp and ink/registration controllers are being replaced on six units, with Prima MS/RIPSet servers also being updated to the latest Microsoft server version. Desk PCs will be upgraded to Windows 7.

During replacement of the Rockwell controllers and conversion to ethernet, the MPU communicate via both the old HDLC and the new ethernet.

The work at the Saskatchewan publisher replicates upgrades already undertaken at sites in Europe and Asia, as well as in Pennsylvania and Panama.
