New technology updates heatset press controls

German commercial printer Adam Ng has worked with manroland and QI Press Controls to upgrade control systems on two of its heatset presses.

The Premium PSO-certified Bruchsal-based printer installed QI's IDS-3D and mRC-3D systems on its five-unit Lithoman III heatset press. Two mRC-3D cameras handle colour register and three more cut-off register control, while two IDS-3D cameras with AIMS, fault detection and automatic colour ductor controller will handle colour control. Technical director Paul Haas says cameras have been custom modified to take account of specific press characteristics and to meet the register technological requirements.

manroland's role in the upgrades has been to upgrade drive systems of Adam's Lithoman and Rotoman presslines to improve quality, flexibility and product variety. Hardware and software of the press control desks secures production and protects against control desk breakdowns by using a redundant system technology.

New folding systems on the Lithoman include a newly integrated HMI-system with touch screen and intuitive operation, with the displaced unit reconfigured to provide redundancy on the Rotoman. An SPS-CPU module has also been replaced with modern programming and master control hardware.
