Nostalgia rules this afternoon as Seybold friends and associates gather around the fireplace at Skytop, Pennsylvania.
A couple were already close by: Frank Romano rehearsed his recollections of printing’s technology history at America east last week, while former Seybold associate editor Bill Solimeno was manning a stand at the show in nearby Hershey.
The Seybold Report Reunion and Reunion Conference opens this afternoon and continues tomorrow (April 18-19) at the Skytop Lodge Executive Conference Center in Skytop. A presentation from Romano is planned, together with a group discussion, trivia game, reception, and a gourmet sit-down dinner capped off by a big bonfire and marshmallow roast.
Plus a showing of Linotype: the Film.
Ten speakers headline Friday’s programme, including Rick Littrell (Winbrook), keynote speaker John Conley (Xerox), Rudy Herrera (HP), Chuck Gehman (Mimeo), James Harvey (CIP4), Marci Kinter (Specialty Graphic Imaging Association), Janis Galitzeck (Alcom Printing) and Rob Rosborough (ScanBuy).
A panel and audience discussion will look at steps for next year.
In advance of a video of the event, publisher of today's Seybold Report the Joss Group has posted this rough cut of images from past years. Along with early Mac, Lisa and IBM personal computers, you’ll find a shot of the Automix video terminal (pictured) – which edited paper tape – and a heap of familiar faces.
