Test cricketer Adam Gilchrist’s standing as one of Australia’s most marketable sports stars is unlikely to be affected by his recent retirement.
His superstar status almost guarantees that he will continue, in the short and probably mid-term, to be keenly sought to promote brands and organisations, forecasts Todd Deacon of the Sweeney Sports Report.
Gilchrist is currently second, his highest position, on the SweeneyScore list which ranks more than 70 Australian sporting identities according to Australians’ opinion about how appropriate they are to endorse brands and organisations.
The list is compiled as part of the national survey-based Sweeney Sports Report, now in its 22nd year. Says Deacon,
In the latest list, released in December, ten of the top 16 stars are now retirees — Ian Thorpe, Glenn McGrath, Steve Waugh, Pat Rafter, Cathy Freeman, Greg Norman, James Hird, Andrew Gaze, Shane Warne and now Gilchrist.
