Staff from a KBA team have helped get a manroland Cromoman back into operation alongside one of the company’s Comet presses.

The South African project was a cooperation between KBA’s PrintHouseService and Paarl Coldset. A Cromoman 50/70 which had been in storage for several years was brought back into service.

The moves to expand capacity in Pietermaritzburg followed the takeover of Natal Witness Printing and Publishing Company by Paarl Coldset. The rebuilt Cromoman has joined a KBA Comet installed in 2002 and extended in 2006.

Paarl Coldset produces 342 million daily, Sunday and weekly newspapers a year at plants in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein and Pietermaritzburg. This includes the leading Daily Sun.

Paarl Coldset is part of Media24 group also runs gravure, label and sheetfed offset printing facilities.
