Two more heatset presses as Quad goes for record

Two new manroland Goss heatset presses have started up at Quad – formerly Quad/Graphics – adding to the 100 the US “marketing experience company” already has worldwide.

The maker has commissioned eight new presses in the last seven years, with all of its traditional web-offset presses supplied by manroland Goss.

Now the two Lithoman IV presses at Quad’s location in Hartford, Wisconsin, are being tuned to achieve a peak run time of 52,500 rph, setting a new record for the design.

The new additions both have a web width of 2060 mm, with a “standard” top speed of 50,000 rph – which translates to 100,000 copies per hour.

During a visit by Quad management to manroland Goss’s headquarters in Augsburg, Germany, chief executive Franz Kriechbaum presented a 3D visualisation of the two new presses to Quad executive vice president and chief operating officer Dave Honan and other Quad manufacturing executives.

He emphasised the valuable cooperation and the strong relationship of trust between the two companies that has grown over the years – a success story that Quad and manroland Goss say they intend to continue together in the future.
