Forget sliding the iPad under the toilet door, when you need to locate a roll, mill owner UPM has just the answer for you.

As one of the hosts of the giant Junction hackathon held in Helsinki last weekend, UPM supported an internet of things track, one of 11 - ranging from virtual reality to healthcare and fintech - during the 48-hour event.

Challenged to create digital solutions using supply chain data, the winners of UPM's track was a team of industrial engineering and management students from the Aalto University with their mobile application FindMyPaperRoll. The winning idea created by Antti Luiro, Tony Hämmäinen and Veikko Kovanen was about tracking the paper deliveries.

"The solution responded well to our challenge and can bring us clear business benefits. It is also easy to implement and can be piloted in a short time frame," Linda von Schantz, business support of UPM Paper ENA says.

Junction is a converging point for developers, designers and entrepreneurs from across the world, with 1300 taking part, 200 of them in IoT. UPM's partners in the track were Tieto and IBM.
