World-leading publishers from Asia will be in focus at WAN-Ifra’s World Newspaper Congress in June.
Print newspaper circulations in the region are more than offsetting the losses of circulation in the west, resulting in global newspaper growth.
And it is in Asia where digital innovators are turning out remarkable strategies that capitalize on the region’s growing digital usage as well, says the organiser’s deputy chief executive and director of communications and public affairs Larry Kilman.
A new generation of newspaper company leaders are emerging in many Asian markets, and the WAN-Ifra is bringing them together for the WNC event in Bangkok, Thailand, from June 2-5.
Kilman says these newspaper industry leaders will share their strategies and practices in a ‘Focus on Asian media’ session at the Congress, which is expected to draw 1200 senior publishing executives to Bangkok.
The session, to be chaired by Robin Hu, chief executive of the South China Morning Post, will feature:
-Azrul Ananda, president director of Jawa POS, Indonesia’s leading newspaper group that includes over 180 publications and 20 local TV channels spread all over the country.
-Jeongdo Hong, vice president of JoongAng Media Network, the largest media group in the Republic of Korea. He is in charge of managing 25 streams of media platforms, including newspapers, television broadcasting, magazine publication, book publishing and Internet/mobile service.
-Sandy Prieto, chief executive of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, a pioneering women in the senior ranks of Asian media who has brought social involvement and entrepreneurship to her company with innovative brand extensions, strong community projects and advocacy.
-Supakorn Vejjajiva, president and chief operating officer of Post Publishing in Thailand, publisher of the English-language Bangkok Post and the Thai-language business daily Post Today. Vejjajiva has been instrumental in expanding the Post’s media reach to include M2F, a free Thai-language daily with over 400,000 distribution, ten magazines, and news and current affairs programming operations on free to air, cable and satellite television.
The 65th World Newspaper Congress, 20th World Editors Forum and 23rd World Advertising Forum, which will run concurrently in Bangkok, are the global summit meetings of the world’s newspapers and news publishers.
